Andover Hockey Club

The original Andover Men’s Hockey Club was formed in 1895 and Andover was one of the eight Founder Members of the Hampshire Hockey Association in 1899.

Play was halted during the Great War of 1914 when many members went to do their patriotic duty for King and Country. It wasn’t until 1921 that the Club was reformed as Andover RAF in the Hampshire Northern Area.

Once again war intervened so play was suspended for the duration. But records show that Andover Men’s Hockey Club was not reformed until 1957 and continued until 1969.

The Club in it’s current format was formed in 1970 and it was based at the Andover Cricket Club Ground until the advent of the all weather pitch at Charlton Leisure Centre in 1995. The change of surface was to bring a complete change to the game as it had beenknown up to until that time.

But the change of surface was not the only revolutionary change in 1995. Times were changing and Andover Ladies amalgamated with the Men’s Club bringing a new perspective to hockey inAndover.

Andover Hockey Club caters for players of both sexes at adult and junior levels. The three Ladies sides (Ladies 3rd XI formed for the 2006-07 season) play in the Hampshire Leagues. The Men’s 1st XI play in the Hampshire First XI League. The 2nd and 3rd Elevens play in the Hampshire Open Leagues. The Vets XI play in the Wessex Masters League.

Over the years players from the Club have gone on to represent Great Britain, Wales and Hampshire and a number of the country's top clubs.
